Ancient Ruins

Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka's second ancient capital and is often considered the best-preserved of the island's ancient cities. Its archaeological park is compact and flat enough to explore by bicycle, with royal palace ruins, ornate temples and the famous Gal Vihara rock-cut Buddha statues all within a short ride of each other.
