Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka's most iconic sights — a 200-metre rock fortress built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century, rising straight out of the surrounding jungle. The climb passes ancient frescoes, mirrored walls and lion-paw gateways before opening onto the ruins of a royal palace at the summit, with views stretching across the Cultural Triangle. Aruna usually times visits for early morning to beat both the heat and the crowds.
